      Walking in the woods

      I have always enjoyed walking in the woods and would often come across an interesting small tree that had a vine wrapped around it. I began collecting them to make walking sticks for family and friends. I had to wait more than a year for the wood to dry so I began collecting cedar that had been dead many years. All of the sticks I make are local North Carolina wood.

      The Canes I make all have whistles, compasses and a glow-in-the-dark feature.

      I also have been making canes that resemble pistols, saws or hammers just for kicks.

      The walking sticks I make all have whistles, compasses and a leather strap. Some have magnifying glasses.

      Whistles

      I realized I could cut whistles into the sticks. It took me a while to get really good at it and in the meantime, I had bunches of small whistles that I had practiced on so as not to mess up the walking sticks. I began selling the small whistles and added compasses. Now the sticks, canes and whistles have compasses and I even added a magnifying glass to a few.
